ICCS 2022. Results of the latest edition of the survey will be released in November

The International Association for the Evaluation of School Achievement has announced that the results of the latest edition of the ICCS 2022 study will be made public on November 28, 2023.

Students from 23 countries, including Poland, took part in the ICCS 2022 survey. This is the first edition of the survey conducted by the Educational Research Institute and also the first edition of the survey in which Polish students have participated since 2009.

The ICCS (International Civic and Citizenship Education Study) is the largest international survey on civic education. The main aim of the study is to determine to what extent young people are prepared to participate in civic life and fulfil the role of citizens in a democratic society.

As Olga Wasilewska, national coordinator of the survey, explains, “The results of the survey will show the knowledge and understanding of civic education issues, as well as the attitudes and civic behaviours of Polish students in comparison with peers from other countries. In this edition of the survey, special emphasis has been placed on issues relating to sustainable development, among others.”

The survey is conducted on a representative sample of students in their eighth year of schooling, and thus allows inferences to be made about the competencies of all eighth graders in the participating countries. An international team of experts develops the test and questionnaires used for the measurement. Teachers of eighth graders and school principals also participate in the survey.

The main organiser of the ICCS survey is the International Association for the Evaluation of School Achievement (IEA). IEA is an independent international organisation of research institutions and government agencies that has been conducting a number of comparative studies on student competencies for several decades. The international research consortium also includes the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER), the Laboratorio di Pedagogia Sperimantale at Roma Tre University and LUMSA University – both in Rome, Italy.

More information about the study can be found at the project’s website.
